In the first half, Juan Espitia, All Conference Player of the Year, with the first goal and then Southeast answered back quickly. At the half: 2-2 Then in the Second Half, Southeast first. Eagles got scared. Took a while for them to score again and when they did it was Juan Hernandez. End of Regulation: 2-2 End of 1 OT: 2-2 End of 2 OT: 2-2. Now, SUDDEN DEATH. Amadou Toure: Game Winning Header. Crowd Goes Wild. Game over. Final: 3-2 Eagles Advance to Second Round which will be played Saturday. 1. Lady Eagle's Basketball Tryouts Today at 4:15 in the Gym. The Eagles lost another heartbreaker, in terms of their Homecoming Game, losing to Page: 17-12. The Eagles (2-7; 0-3) are out of playoff contention and will take on Southern Alamance in their Senior Night Game. The Golden Eagles are playing very well to end out the season putting up 41 points in their last two contests. Coach Kirkpatrick must have found something thing that work offenisvely after the first conference loss to Dudley, 30-7 because we almost beat Southeast (34-29) and this game (17-12) but we must finish. One key series that we dropped was that goal-line series early in the third that we didn't finish. So the moment we learn how to finish, will be the moment we can win games. We can be proud of our Defense. They held off a team that in their past 2 contests scored 82 points to just 17. Looking ahead, the Football Team will take on Southern Alamance in their last home game of the season (Senior Night) Friday at 7:30 pm. Then end their season at Grimsley Next Friday.
The Soccer team looks like the only fall team at Smith to head into the playoffs. The brackets were released and we are number 14. Ironic because Carlos's Jersey Number is 14. Anyway, the pressure is on. This is the first time the Soccer Team has made it to playoffs in 35 years (1979). But some good news is that we have never lost at home (5-0-1). The Eagles are 1-1 against the Falcons this season. The first time they won, it was here at home, by a score of 4-1. The second time, it was away. they lost 2-1. Also, both teams have momentum coming off of close wins as they closed out the Regular Season. Southeast Beat Southern Alamance: 2-1 and we beat Page by that same score. Luckily, for us, Southeast is not very good when it comes to going to other schools, they are ( 5-4-1 away). However, this should be a good match-up and it's hard to predict because both teams are good. Our players just can't afford to make mistakes and this will test their character. They will be tested like never before a bond will be formed among them that'll never be broken. Let's hope they pass. The First Round kicks off Wednesday at Smith at 7 pm. Ticket Prices (TBA) It was a battle of epic proportions. The Pirates of Page came to the Eagles Nest on their Senior night and they did not get what they was look for. The Golden Eagles won their last regular season and last conference game, with a final of 2-1. This was a thriller in every sense of the word "thriller." So, for the first time since 1979, 35 years ago, the Golden Eagles will go to playoffs and claim a piece of the Metro 4A Conference Champ Title for the first time in school history. Carlos accomplished his goal, let's keep it going.
